5- Reading Comprehension
Read the following paragraph then write notes on it.
When anyone opens a account at a bank , he is lending the bank money, repayment of which he may demand at any time, either in cash or by drawing a cheque in favour of another person. Primarily, the banker-customer relationship is that of debtor and creditor –which is depending on whether the customer's account is in credit or is overdrawn. But, in addition to that basically smile concept, the bank and it's customer owe a large number of obligation to one another. Many of these obligations can give rise to problems and complaints but a bank customer, unlike, a buyer of good, cannot complain that the law is loaded against him.
The bank must obey its customer's instruction , and not those of any one else. when, for example a customer first opens an account , he instructs the bank to debit his account only in respect of cheques drawn by himself , he gives the bank specimens of his signature , and there is a very firm rule that the bank has no right or authority to pay out a customer's money on cheque on which its customer's signature has been forged , it makes no difference that the forgery may have been a very skilful one : the bank must recognize its customer's signature. For this reason there is no risk to the customer in the modern practice, adopted by some banks of printing the customers name on his cheques if this facilitates forgery it is the bank which will lose , not the customer.
Read and explain the following words and phrases as they are used in the passage
1. debtor ( line 4 ) 2. concept (line 6) 3. Give rise to ( line 7 4. Specimens
( line 13 ) 5. No risk to ( line 17 ) 6. Forged ( line 15) . Facilities ( line 18)
Answer the following questions
1. What is meant by the statement that " the banker – customer relation ship is that of debtor and creditor ?
2. Note a sentence from the second paragraph which illustrates this statement
A banker customer ……………………… can't complain the law ……….
3. Why dose a customer give the bank specimens of his signature when he first opens an account
4. Which of theses sentences expresses the main idea in the second paragraph
The bank must obey its customer's instructions but not of anyone else.
The banks must honor a cheque even when the signature on it has been forged
The bank must always recognize its customer's signature

William Shakespeare was born in the market town of Stratford-upon-Avon. It's said that he attended the local grammar school; where the principal subject taught was Latin. Nothing certain is known about what he did between the time he left school and his departure for London. Whatever caused him to leave the town of his birth, the world can be grateful that he did so. What is certain is that he set his foot on the road when he arrived in London.
At first he was without money or friends there, but he earned a little by taking care of the horses of the gentlemen who attended the plays at the theatre. In the time, as he became a familiar figure to the actors in the theatre, they stopped and spoke to. They found his conversation so brilliant that finally he was invited to join their company. By 1592 he became one of the three leading members of a company of actors called the Lord Chamberlain's Men. This company was under the protection of the of the Queen's court. From what we know about his later life it's clear that Shakespeare's connection with the theatre made him wealthy man, since his plays attracted large audience. Towards the beginning of the Seventeenth century no less than eleven of his masterpieces were produced include "King Lear, Macbeth and Hamlet"
Answer the following question:
1- Why did Shakespeare look after horses when he first arrived in London?
2- Why did the actors at the theatre invite Shakespeare to join their company?
3- What good lesson does the passage give us?
4- What do the underlined phrases mean?
B-Read the text then answer the questions below:
Optimism and pessimism determine our success or failure. Optimism stimulates self-confidence and good relationships and opens the way to success. Pessimism makes us uncertain of our abilities, our personal relationships and ourselves and blocks the way to success. It also creates hopelessness which generates apathy. It's expressed in people who are unwilling to take risks, and whose one idea is to lean back on what the authorities will do for them.
Some people, because of their pessimism, foresee evil rather than good. It makes people believe in luck and prevents them from depending on their abilities.
To avoid pessimism, try to make twenty-four hours of the day happy hours. You should keep for yourself opportunities of recovery and refreshment.
Answer the following question:
